Grid instrumentation on distributed assets - transferable to WA grid and microgrid deployments.
Perth ยท Engineering studio
A Melbourne-based engineering studio serving Perth, Fremantle and the Western Australian resources sector across IoT, edge AI, industrial automation and embedded systems. WA’s distance from the eastern states is a real constraint we plan for - multi-day trips, remote-comms-aware designs, and equipment planning that assumes the flight in cannot be repeated the next day.
Local context
Western Australia’s engineering base is dominated by the resources sector - mining, oil and gas, and the supporting industrial services that surround them. Perth itself hosts head offices, engineering consultancies and increasingly a startup and cleantech scene around Fremantle and Curtin. The Pilbara and Kalgoorlie regions host the assets themselves - autonomous haulage operations, remote monitoring systems, and the harshest deployment environments in the country. The programs we take on for WA clients reflect that geography: remote-comms-aware IoT, mining-relevant edge AI, industrial automation for resource-processing plants, and increasingly cleantech systems around Perth.
WA is a five-hour flight from Melbourne and a two-hour time-zone gap. We treat that as a design constraint, not a friction: multi-day site visits, comprehensive equipment planning, remote-diagnostic tooling built into every deployment. WA clients pay a travel-cost line item that reflects the reality - but they get an engineering team that understands remote-operations design from having actually done it, not from having read about it.
Sectors we serve locally
Resource-sector asset telemetry across mining, oil-and-gas, and materials-handling in the Pilbara and Goldfields.
WA grid instrumentation, distributed renewable monitoring, microgrid deployments across a large sparsely-connected state.
Wheatbelt and pastoral broadacre monitoring with cellular and satellite comms; horticulture around Manjimup and the south-west.
Mining haulage fleet telemetry, remote-operations vehicle systems.
Engagement logistics
Site visits. Five-hour direct flights Melbourne to Perth. We do not do day-trips to WA - visits are structured as multi-day intensives (typically 3-5 days) so the travel cost is amortised across meaningful work. Regional WA (Pilbara, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Port Hedland) - week-long trips planned around FIFO schedules, safety inductions and site accommodation.
Commissioning and installation. Remote WA sites get comprehensive equipment planning: every consumable, spare and test tool travels with us because a missing part means a return flight. Backout plans documented; on-call for the first week after commissioning built into the program.
Prototype freight and pilot runs. Melbourne to Perth ground freight adds 3-5 days; air freight overnight for time-critical iterations. For remote sites, we build iteration cycles with the freight time honestly costed.
Time zone. WA is AWST year-round, two hours behind Melbourne (three during daylight-saving months). Working windows overlap only in Melbourne’s morning; we plan review cadences around that gap and use asynchronous demos where the review does not need to be live.
